Nicholas Pooran's IPL Career

Nicholas Pooran, a left-handed hitter with explosive power, signed with the Punjab Kings (PBKS) for INR 4.2 crore in 2019 and made his IPL debut.

Pooran scored 168 runs from seven games in his rookie season, with a strike rate of 157, showing glimpses of his talent. The following season, he improved even more, scoring 353 runs at 169.71 in 14 games.

Following a poor 2021 season in which he scored only 85 runs in 12 games, PBKS discharged him.  Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) paid INR 10.75 crore for him during the IPL 2022 mega auction.

Pooran scored 300 runs for the second time in his IPL career in 2022. However, SRH freed him, resulting in a bidding war at the next auction. CSK, RR, and DC were all interested, but the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) eventually bought him for an astonishing INR 16 crore.

He immediately made an impact for LSG, scoring 358 runs in 2023 at an incredible strike rate of 172.95 to help the team reach the playoffs.  The contract was extended in 2024.

The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) paid ₹21 crore to sign Nicholas Pooran for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, prompting questions about his worth. Only Heinrich Klaasen's 23 crore exceeded his pay, which was equal to Virat Kohli's.
